A magnitude 3.7 earthquake struck the waters off Ganghwa Island in Incheon early on January 9, 2023. Small-scale aftershocks may continue for the next few days, and while it is currently considered a "main earthquake" there are concerns that a larger earthquake may occur if it is a "forward" earthquake rather than the main earthquake.

On MBC's "Kim Jong-bae's Attention" the head of the earthquake volcano research division, Park Soon-cheon, stated, "As of 7 a.m., a magnitude 1.2 aftershock has occurred once."

Experts are concerned that a larger earthquake will occur in the future due to the geological structure of the southeastern part of the Korean Peninsula, and they all agree that thorough countermeasures will be implemented. Korea appears to be no longer an earthquake-safe zone.

1. If you are inside

• Get under the table or use a cushion to protect your head, for example
• Remove yourself to a safe location away from windows and balconies
• Gas and electricity were turned off, and the outlet was secured
• Instead of taking the elevator, take the stairs
• In the event of a power outage, call for assistance calmly

2. If you are outside

• Keep away from any signs or windows
• There is a risk of falling objects if you approach the wall
• If you're driving, pull over to the right side of the road and listen to the radio
• When a tsunami warning is issued, get to an emergency evacuation site or a high place as soon as possible
